Souvenir of Choice

When traveling, we all want something to remember the trip by. Some buy t-shirts, some buy shot glasses, some get little knick-knacks, and others, well, I’m not sure what others buy. But I know that I tend to prefer sending myself postcards as a way of a souvenir.

There are some reasons for this.

Firstly, postcards are affordable! The most I’ve paid for one is $1, and stamps are still very much affordable. I can’t say the same about many other things you normally see in a gift store.

Second, they don’t take up much space. I can have a hundred postcards and that would probably take up the same amount of space as a book.

Third, you can write yourself a little special note on the back with, perhaps, why that trip was so special. Years down the line, reading back those notes in your neat (or in my case, chicken scratches) handwriting can be a fun afternoon activity.

This little vintage map box came from Ross for $5ish and I’ve seen similar boxes in all the discount stores like TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods. It fits many postcard sizes except the really big ones. It’s strange though, that postcards come in many sizes and not just a standard one.

What’s your souvenir of choice when traveling?

    I love postcards c:
This year’s holiday is actually my first

which is funny and weird at the same
time when you come back home and

Did you know that it never crossed my mind to actually write a message to yourself on the bag and mail it to yourself that is such a genius idea and I think I might just start doing it! I do not really like collecting traditional souvenirs because I find they just turn into junk, but if I find something really unique that I would buy anyway I will get it. I like to collect business cards, tickets, and flyers from events and places I have been. It’s free and serves as a great guide if I were ever to go back or friends need advices on where to go!

I love little ticket stubs and such! Such a great way to keep little memories :) I’ve kept all of the lanyards and name tags of the events I’ve been, for some reason, haha.

that’s a lovely collection.. we don’t really have one specific thing.. if the place is well know for something.. like Venetian glass.. etc we like to buy something along those lines.. but my husband has also started to buy little toy cars where ever he goes.. and we now have a growing car collection

I really like the idea of getting what the area is well-known for. And little toy cars sounds like such a great collection to have!

I love your idea. I use to send myself postcards, I figured they would always be better photos than I could get and it was fun to come home to mail other than junk. But now I love to bring something home that I can use to serve food with. Might be a Spoon from China, serving tongs from Africa, or a plate from France. I always enjoy remembering where I was when I use it.

What a lovely idea! I’d never thought of doing that.
