For our recent trip to San Francisco, we ended up staying at InterContinental San Francisco. InterContinental hotels are the luxury hotels from the IHG hotel group, and this would be the first time I would be staying in one, so I thought I’d write a review of my first impression!
The main allure of this place to us was the location – it was only a couple of blocks away from Union Square. Maybe a five minute walk. It was close to so many things (across the street was a CVS, I think, or another similar drug store), especially a shopping hub that was perfect for after-Christmas shopping spree.
Parking in San Francisco is never fun, especially the closer you are to tourist hubs. Our only option for parking our car overnight was parking garages and the prices were at least $45 per night. Our hotel charged somewhere around $56, which is just so crazy to me.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant, but I can tell you it has a nice bar section and a restaurant called Luce that is one of San Francisco’s two Michelin Star restaurant. Oh, I wish we had dined there, but alas, it was not in the cards for us this time around.
The official title of the room we stayed in was called “Corner Deluxe King”. The room was spacious and had so much room to walk around in. Comfy bed, comfy office chair, had HGTV on the channel guide. What else do you need? Of course, the selling point was just the amount of windows that came with the room. Two views all at once? I’ll take it!
The disappointment, however, strongly lies in the bathroom. Aesthetically, there isn’t anything wrong with it, but it was such an average bathroom compared to the front room. The shower could definitely use an update, especially the water system. The water pressure was so weak, and the whole time we stayed there, hot water was non-existent. Imagine taking a cold shower in winter. BRRRR.
I did enjoy their amenities kit they provided in one of the drawers that included a Nail Care Kit,a Sewing Kit, and Vanity Kit, among others.
InterContinental San Francisco has an indoor pool filled with saltwater, and Joseph and I were super excited to try it out. But, one foot inside the pool and I squealed like a little girl. It was not warm as I expected, haha. Those two older couple in the photo were swimming along like there’s no care in the world, but I … yeah, no. We ended up hopping over to the jacuzzi that’s placed just to the right of this photo.
Aside from the chattering bellmen that didn’t help us with our luggage as we stumbled out of the car with crowded arms full of things, everyone was so kind and helpful.
I guess Joseph must have mentioned to them when my birthday was, so when we first got in the hotel room, a waiter knocked on the door and delivered a plate of dessert. When Joseph said my birthday wasn’t until the next day, they again brought a plate of dessert on my actual birthday. How nice is that?! Plus they did turn-down service for us, and included a piece of chocolate on our pillows every night.
Overall, thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this InterContinental branch and I hope I get the chance to dine here in the future as well!
