I am not a coffee connoisseur but I can’t help but be drawn to coffee shops with their aromatic coffee scent floating about the room and the interior decor that makes staying for a couple of hours enjoyable. The great thing about living in LA is that there are ample amounts of coffee shops, particularly on the west side of the city, that you can visit.
One, in particular, is Alfred’s Coffee and Kitchen located in Melrose Place. It’s been on my list for the longest time, ever since pictures of their cute coffee shop has been bombarded on my instagram feed. Nestled in a quiet tree-lined street near fashion retailers like Marc Jacobs, Chloe, and The Row, as well as being in the same building as Kate Sommerville’s Clinic, Alfred’s was a great location to stop and re-energize in-between shopping (or in my case today, window shopping).
For a location that does not have easy parking (there’s only street parking nearby that’s constantly filled, or parking garages a block or two away), this place has a steady line. On the plus side, the line goes by fairly quickly. On the downside, it can be hard to find seating.
They had a solid list of coffee types that they offered, as well as a list of teas and pastries. I got their Iced Matcha Latte for $4.5 and their Chocolate Croissant Danish for around $5. Again, I don’t know anything about coffee so I can’t speak about the taste, but I quite enjoyed them nonetheless.
They’re also famous for coining the term “But First, Coffee,” which God only knows has been spun off into SO many variations.
If you’re visiting the area, Alfred’s Coffee and Kitchen is definitely worth the visit. The exterior alone is charming enough.
